La Vélodyssée from Rochefort to Marennes
Add a sporting touch to your stay in Charente-Maritime by cycling the famous La Vélodyssée cycle route from Rochefort!
La Vélodyssée is a 1,300km cycle route that crosses Brittany and runs along the Atlantic coast to the Basque coast. It is the French part of the Atlantic Coast Route - Euro Vélo 1 (11,500km in total!).
The Rochefort section is 38km long and can be done in 2? hours at a good pace, or 3 hours if you take your time.
The advantage: almost the entire route is on a greenway, a guarantee of safety and beautiful scenery.
Here are a few not-to-be-missed stops:
- In Rochefort: the reproduction of the Hermione ship (18th century), the Corderie Royale, the Accro-mâts acrobatic course, etc.
- In Marennes, France's leading oyster-farming basin: the panorama from the church tower, tasting fresh oysters at Marennes-Plage, etc.
- Along the way: marshes and canals for a bucolic atmosphere
